ExxonMobil announced last week that it will expand its lubricant blending plant in Singapore by constructing a stand alone facility to produce Mobil 1 engine oils.
The United States-based energy giant did not disclose the size or cost of the project but said it will come online during the second half of 2017. The new facility is adjacent to the existing blending plant, which next to ExxonMobils Jurong refinery on mainland Singapore.
According to ExxonMobil, Mobil 1 is the worlds leading synthetic engine oil. Officials said they expect demand for the product line to grow within the region. The company cited recent projections by Kline & Co. consultancy that synthetic engine oil demand in Asia-Pacific will increase by 8 percent between 2014 and 2024.
The Singapore plant will become the sixth worldwide to manufacture Mobil 1 oils. ExxonMobil said it is not unusual to make such products in dedicated facilities.
“Separate blending and storage for these flagship products is preferred,” spokesman Christian Flathman said. “Complexity of manufacture, number of components and requirements drove the facility design at Jurong.”
