Sustainability agency EcoVadis put Perstorp among the top 1% of companies it assessed for sustainability. Ratings from agencies such as EcoVadis are gaining importance for stakeholders and customers who regard them as business requirements, a Perstorp representative said.
Perstorp, wholly owned by Malaysia’s Petronas, progressed in all four assessed areas over the previous year, the agency found: environment, labor and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement.
EcoVadis generates sustainability ratings using international sustainability standards, including the Global Reporting Initiative, the UN Global Compact ISO 26000.
“The platinum rating from EcoVadis serves as a vital endorsement for our stakeholders and customers, many of whom now view third-party sustainability assessments as a fundamental requirement for doing business,” Elisa Swanson-Parbäck, Perstorp’s business development director for sustainable lubricants, told Lube Report. “In today’s market, it’s not enough to simply claim that you are sustainable – you must provide verified, transparent evidence.”
The rating validates a company’s progress and provides external recognition that it is “walking the talk” when it comes to sustainability, said Parbäck. This in turn opens up new business opportunities and strengthens existing ones by aligning us with customers and partners who share our values, she explained.
“Our progression is the result of strategic and operational improvements in every corner of our organization. Ultimately, while we have a dedicated sustainability team driving many of these initiatives, the improvements we’ve made reflect the collective effort of the entire company,” Parbäck said.
